Living in Oblivion:

 

When we first started our short film research, we looked into a short film called ‘Living in Oblivion’ which was released in 1955 and was directed by ‘Tom Dicillo’. The film was very popular and branded as being ‘the ultimate tribute to independent film makers’. This film is about a group of cast and crew members who are having a bad day on set and nothing seems to be going the way it’s planned. This however, turns out to be a dream of the director. The reason we were given this short film to watch is so we get an idea of what it’s like being a director and the different roles there are within the film industry. It helped us to choose which roles we would do within the group and also help us to realise that it isn’t going to be an easy task and we need to co-operate.

Cinematography:

I was given the role of director therefore I wanted to make sure that I knew about the different camera angles that we could incorporate within the short film. This means that I will have a better understanding as a director and I will be more knowledgeable about to improve my short film in order to make it more interesting for people to watch.

The shots that we can include within our short film are listed below with a definition of what they are:

Close Up: Head and shoulders are within the frame. This is because the director wants to focus the audience’s attention on the facial expression of the character.

Extreme Close Up: This is when small details are given the most attention. This can either be done for artistic effect or to highlight an important aspect that they director wants the audience to notice.

Long Shot: This shows the whole character from top to toe. This helps us to identify the characters body language along with see what clothes and prop they may be wearing.

Point of View Shot: This shot is used to see what the character is looking at. This helps the audience get into the scene and makes them feel a part of what the character is going through.

Mid Shot: This is from the waist upwards. This shot is usually used to the audience will focus on what the characters are saying rather than what they are doing or what is going on behind them.

Over the Shoulder Shot: This shot is where we are looking over one characters shoulder at the subject. This is usually to focus the audience’s attention on the subject and their reaction to what is going to happen next.

Two Shot: This is a shot of two people which is used to show the relationship they have with each other. For example: if they are close together they are friends with each other of they are far away from each other there is hostility between the characters.

Another important aspect we need to consider is camera movement. This is because cameras are very rarely motionless therefore camera movement is used to create impact. Some of the types of camera movements are as followed:

Steadi-cam: This is where the camera is at a standstill and is mounted onto a harness so the movement is smooth.

Handheld: This where the camera shot is a bit shaky due to the camera being held without support. This is usually used to show panic and build tension.

Pan: This is where the camera moves horizontally across the room or location.

Zoom: This is where the camera is in a fixed position and the lenses moves either closer or further away from the character. This is usually used to show the sudden facial expressions of characters.

Tracking: This is where the camera is placed alongside the movement within the scene in order to ‘track’ or portray movement.

Tilt: A movement in which scans a subject or location vertically.

Within this section I will analyse the GRANITE structure on order to analysis films effectively. 

 

Character Profiles

Character Profile:

In this section I will be uploading the character profiles for my cast. This section will include Ahri, Roxanne, Billy and Dean. Having a character profile will allow the actor or actress to get into character easier and also help the character to feel more confident in their acting.

above is my character profile of Ahri. Ahri is one of the main characters within the short film. From the character profile you can see that she is quite shy. As well as this, her character profile can be compared with the others to show how the characters personalities differ.

 

This Roxanne's character profile. Roxanne's personality is very different from Ahri's. Roxanne is more confident and outgoing. Roxanne is also one of the main characters within this short film therefore she plays a big part in the story.

Release Form

Release Form:

A legal release form is a legal document that acts to terminate any liability between the releaser and the releasee. Sometimes a release can be made orally but then no documentation of this agreement would have been made therefore it is more efficient and safer to use a documented version.

Final Script and Story Board for The Invisible

The final script:

This is the final copy of our script. The reason it has changed is due to a change in the cast as well as a change in location. This means I needed to modify the script slightly so it fitted into our new location. We kept the story the same but changed aspects so it suited our location better. This is how this script was made. For example, some of the wordings changed and instead of a party we are now doing a fundraising event. This means that it will suit the storyline better.

This is also where the storyboard for the film was finalised after the changes that lead to some of the scenes changing locations. Within the film, we wanted to do a range of shots to make it look more professional and to keep the audience entertained. Below is the storyboards for the film. 

Call Sheets

Call Sheets:

In this section I have created Call Sheets for my cast and crew. A call sheet is a filmmaking term for a schedule which is created by the assistant director using the shot list. This will be issued to cast and crew members to inform them of where they need to be and at what time. As well as this, it will tell them what they are filming that day and which makeup and wardrobes they will need as well as other information to ensure the shoot runs smoothly.
After May the 12th we had completed the filming off all the scenes therefore meaning the film was ready to enter 'post production'.

Indie Films

Indie Films:

In this section I have looked at the Indie film industry. I have look into what n Indie film is and what kind of issues could be addressed. As well as this, I have looked into both the Sundance and the Raindance Film Festivals ad provided some examples of Indie Film posters. I believe that this is beneficial as my poster looks very Indie and I think it will b a good idea to pursue this kind of idea. This also helps me to identify different types of film within the industry and how each of them are important in their own way.

Teaser Posters

In this section I will be showing the teaser posters that I have created for my short film. They show each of the lead characters within the film. This is due to them having the most impact within the film. As well as this, the story revolves around them therefore it makes more sense to do it for just the main characters rather than all of them.

 Ahri

 

 

This is my first teaser poster that was created. My actor posed in order to capture a certain feeling. By looking down she can create a sad and lonely look. This helps to portray her character as being a shy girl who doesn't socialise much with her friends. This will help the audience to gain a deeper insight into the character of Ahri.

 

 Roxanne

This is my second teaser posted which was created for the character of Roxanne. Roxanne is an outgoing and fun girl and her abusing her boyfriend is a secret. This is incorporated into the teaser poster as she is looking and smiling at something but yet no one would notice or even know that this character was an abusive girlfriend. This means that when the audience finds out then they will be more shocked about the nature of this character.
